NODES
University of KwaZulu-Natal
The UKZN node led by Prof. Thomas Konrad employ the collective expertise and strengths of all academics at the Westville Physics Cluster who specialise in quantum technology related research fields.
We thus can rely on research experience as well as methods and techniques from various research areas relevant for quantum technology such as quantum and classical optics, atomic physics, photonics, electronics and system design, quantum information processing and communication, open quantum systems, quantum Monte Carlo simulations, quantum field theory, quantum many body systems, and computer science.
The centre aims to educate young people, produce quantum code, and build devices that will drive South Africa’s quantum ecosystem and revolutionise industries like banking and secure communications. The new centre strives to be interdisciplinary and is planned to work with industry.
Projects
