Driving Quantum Collaboration Across South Africa

The South African Quantum Technology Initiative (SA QuTI) hosted its 2023 Grantee Workshop at the scenic Premier Resort Cutty Sark in Scottburgh, bringing together the country’s leading minds in quantum science. The workshop served as a dynamic platform to unite academia, industry, and government stakeholders in a shared mission: to accelerate the growth of quantum technologies in South Africa.

Attendees included a wide array of active quantum researchers from universities across the country, as well as industry partners with an interest in quantum innovation. This diverse gathering created space for in-depth discussions around national capabilities, collaboration strategies, and the development of a thriving quantum technology ecosystem.

The core aim of the workshop was to build critical mass in quantum expertise by identifying synergies between research institutions and commercial partners. Participants also explored opportunities to translate cutting-edge research into real-world applications.
