Demystifying Quantum Security for Industry Stakeholders

Hosted by Professor Andrew Forbes, the Introduction to Quantum Technology for Non-Experts was a high-impact event designed to bridge the gap between cutting-edge quantum research and industry awareness. The session focused on quantum security, outlining both the threats and opportunities posed by emerging quantum technologies.

Attended by representatives from South African banks and technology firms, the event offered participants a strategic overview of how quantum technologies will affect secure communication, data protection, and competitive advantage in the digital age.

The programme featured expert talks that balanced accessibility with depth. Dr Isaac Nape delivered an introduction to Quantum Computing, while Prof Andrew Forbes introduced the fundamentals of Quantum Communication. Industry perspectives were provided by Raphta and SmartCrypto.

The event marked a significant step in expanding awareness of quantum technology across non-academic sectors. It highlighted the urgency for cross-sector understanding and preparedness, especially within high-risk industries such as finance and telecommunications.
